Yesterday, my dad and I took John Mark and Amelia to the Birmingham Zoo. We saw all kinds of animals and John Mark had a blast!

We (Mallory and I) also took the kids to the Central Florida Zoo a few weeks ago. It was a total flop, but we did get to see some elephants (John Mark's favorite animal right now). The Birmingham Zoo is SOOOO much better! Oh well- maybe we'll get to go to the Bham Zoo at least once a year when we visit my family. And, we've heard the Tampa Zoo is good, and Disney has the Animal Kingdom now.
Mallory and I have a hard time enjoying zoos because we've seen the real thing- Africa in its truest form. But, it's fun to see our kids (well, only one kid for now) enjoy the animals.

I hear ya about not being able to enjoy zoos as much after living in Africa. It's just not quite the same as seeing a whole family of elephants cross the road in front of your car and the mother trumpeting at you because you are too close to her babies (one of our more scary experiences :))!
Disney's Animal Kingdom is pretty good, but if you are ever going to spend that kind of money, Busch Gardens (in my opinion) has them beat as far as animals go!
